She waits by the door,
A void in her heart,
Yet to be filled,
Since they were apart.
Nightmares of guns,
Of caskets and bombs,
Haunt her sleep,
Since he'd been gone.
She still sets the table,
As though waiting for another,
She still keeps his towels,
Under the sink, in the drawer.
No matter what others told her,
No matter what they said,
She just couldn't accept
That her husband was dead.
Monday, July 12, 2010 She died and left him her house.
It was a dark and stormy night,
When he stood outside her door,
Drenched to the bone,
As the rain continued to pour.
Teardrops slid down his cheek,
As he raised his hand to knock,
Although inside, he knew,
That the door would be unlocked.
As the door swung open,
He was being welcomed, he thought,
Into where they made memories,
Where they once had fought.
He stepped into the house,
Where dear Amber once lived,
She had breathed her last breath,
And this house was now his.
When he stood outside her door,
Drenched to the bone,
As the rain continued to pour.
Teardrops slid down his cheek,
As he raised his hand to knock,
Although inside, he knew,
That the door would be unlocked.
As the door swung open,
He was being welcomed, he thought,
Into where they made memories,
Where they once had fought.
He stepped into the house,
Where dear Amber once lived,
She had breathed her last breath,
And this house was now his.
