I looked over across the lake,
Spotting someone over there,
And I willed that he look at me.
At that precise moment,
He looked up,
And started to call my name.
Taken aback,
I just stared,
And he slowly looked down again.
I made up my mind,
And took a chance,
Plunging into the icy cold lake.
I swam towards him,
Hoping to meet,
But something suddenly grabbed my feet!
I kicked and pushed,
Screaming for help,
And then I realized that it was him!
He thought I was drowning,
And jumped in to save me,
And if that wasn't interesting enough,
I found out that he,
Really couldn't swim,
And I ended up pulling him out.

So that's what I did,
Leaving that man.

Sunday, November 23, 2008 Old Man John's Love
Cigarette to his lips,
Craving to hear her speak.
His eyes wide open,
Hoping to see her pass.
Manifested itself,
Till it became an obsession.
Was in love with his neighbour,
The dead Miss Francine Jackson.
That Francine loved him too,
And would walk by just to see him smoke.
And do up her eyes,
Just to look real nice.
Confess her love,
For John hadn't said a word.
And just go out and take a chance,
You may be let down,
You may get all hurt,
But at least you won't ever regret.
Mister Old Man John,
Would sigh and wring his hands,
For if he had told
Miss Francine of his love,
Many happy days they would have spent.
Friday, November 21, 2008 A Day of a Malaysian Schoolboy
Yeahh. This' the story that got published in Dewan Siswa a while back.
-
Razak sat on the edge of his seat, his eyes focused on the large clock in front of the class. Around him, his classmates were lost in their own little world. Still, each and every one of them waited for the sound of the ringing bell. Some of them were squirming restlessly in their seats while others were more blatant in their enthusiasm to escape the stuffy classroom.
The black haired Malay boy tore his gaze away from the clock and turned towards his classmates. His mouth twitched as he tried to suppress a laugh when he saw Ah Meng lying on his desk with his mouth open. He was drooling slightly and his right cheek was squashed against the table.
”Fifteen minutes left.”
Ah Meng woke up with a start at the sound of the teacher’s sharp voice. He wiped a trail of drool from his face and caught Razak staring at him. He gave the other boy a quick grin before dozing off again.
The artistic Chinese boy had brown hair and rather feminine features. His long hair framed his face perfectly, giving him an angelic appearance. Razak stopped looking at his friend and turned his attention back to his exam paper. He glanced through it quickly and closed it again.
His attention was diverted again by another one of his classmates. Sudaesh was stacking the contents of his pencil box on the edge of his desk.
So far, he managed to build some sort of fence surrounding his desk using erasers and pencils. He was about to add finishing touches to his masterpiece with his ruler when suddenly, the teacher slammed Sudaesh’s desk with his fist causing all his stationary to fall to the ground.
Quirky and sarcastic, Sudaesh was quick to think of a retort. But one glare from the fierce teacher was enough to make him collect his stationary and put them back neatly in his pencil box. For the second time that day, Razak forced himself to hold back a laugh when he saw the distressed look on his friend’s face.
“Ten minutes left.”
And yet again, Ah Meng snapped awake. Giving up on sleeping, he took out his pencil and began sketching on the back of his exam paper. Razak craned his neck and laughed when he saw a drawing of Sudaesh. It wouldn’t have been funny except for the expression on Sudaesh’s face which was akin to the expression of a constipated person.
“Razak! Is there anything funny you would like to share with the class?”
“No. Sorry, Cikgu.”
“Now keep your voice down. Seven minutes left.”
Ah Meng grinned at Razak’s embarassment. The Malay boy shot Ah Meng a sharp glare and buried his head in his hands. He was lucky the teacher didn’t take away his exam paper. He got up and flipped through it, making sure he answered all the questions.
Razak could feel Ah Meng’s gaze boring into him trying to signal a silent apology. He ignored him. He knew he would suffer the concequences later but he didn’t mind. He might as well make his friend suffer a little. Just the thought of that made him smile and immedietely, Ah Meng’s brow furrowed.
Ah, I’ll just put him out of his misery
He scrawled something on his eraser and dropped it on the ground. Ah Meng quickly picked it up and smiled when he read it. The Chinese boy promptly replied and dropped the eraser. Razak slowly bent down and grabbed the eraser which read,
“R: Meng, It’s okay. Mamak later?
M: Sure, R.”
Razak settled back comfortably in his seat waiting for the bell to signal his freedom.
“Hand your paper to the front. There’s no need to turn around or make noise.”
Razak silently handed his paper to the person in front of him. He waited for the countdown he knew would come. Right on cue, Sudaesh began slamming the table shouting, "Ten.. Nine..”
Soon, the whole class was chanting. The teacher’s attempt to restrain the class were left unnoticed as the students’ voices became louder and louder. “Two.. One… MERDEKA!!!”
This wasn’t the National Day. But it was freedom. Razak was practically leaping with joy, glad that the final exams were over.
“Raz, let’s go eat! I’m starving.”
“Meng! Waitlah. At least thank the teacher first.”
“You thank him for me. I’m leaving. Wait for you outside.”
Razak rolled his eyes at his friend’s disrespectful behaviour. He went to the front of the class, thanked the teacher and ran out, breathing the fresh, cool air of Ipoh, Perak. He saw Ah Meng leaning against his bright red bicycle, attempting to look suave.
He failed.
Ah Meng toppled over his bicycle. Razak ran to Ah Meng’s side and tried to help him up. Ah Meng, being the stubborn boy he was, tried to salvage what dignity he had left and get up by himself. This resulted in him tripping over his own feet and landing on the ground. Again.
Trying to be a good friend, Razak offered to help Ah Meng up once more. Ah Meng refused yet again, his mouth set in a determined line. Ah Meng looked so much like a stubborn 5-year-old that Razak couldn’t contain his laughter.
He laughed so hard that his sides ached from laughing and his eyes were starting to tear up. Finally, Ah Meng managed to pull himself up. He knocked the side of Razak’s head, causing the poor boy to laugh hysterically again. Soon, both of them were laughing so uncontrollably that the people walking by started looking at them oddly.
After a while, they managed to settle down. Razak got his bicycle and they both wheeled the bikes to the front of the school. Once they were outside the school compound, they untucked their shirts and climbed on their bicycles.
They looked at each other, their eyes challenging. Soon, they were off.
Both of them were pedalling so hard towards the mamak stall that they didn’t notice another bicycle coming from behind. Suddenly, a bright blue bicycle sped past them. Razak and Ah Meng immedietely recognized the rider and called after him.“
Sudaesh! Mamak stall. Now!”
Sudaesh nodded his head and pedalled faster. They arrived at the stall, panting hard. The three boys quickly locked their bicycles and sat down. They proceeded to order their food. Before they ate, they made a toast to Malaysia and Merdeka. Independence and freedom.

Sure, I'll laugh,
But does it make sense?
Not a chance.
They're kinda odd,
Random too,
But I'm sure you tried;
Which itself is good.
So, keep it up,
Amuse a few,
Take your time,
You'll write well soon.

Happiness fills her eyes with light,
She smiles as the waves brush her feet,
Leaning back in her comfortable seat.
As she struggles to stay awake,
He pulls her onto his lap,
And lets her lie there, just like that.
Beside the sea.

Thursday, August 28, 2008 Olympics
At eight,
on eighth of Eight,
Many stayed awake,
To witness the commencement of the Games,
And the lighting of the Olympic flame.
Stunned and awed we were,
As we watched from our own home,
Envious and jealous we were,
Hearing the cheers of those in the dome.
China shone that night,
With the colours, the sounds, the lights,
Beijing hosted the Games,
For the year 2008.
The athletes all prepped and ready,
Prepared for the Olympic Games,
Mind set on winning the medals,
everyone would know their names.
We were all prepared to support,
Our beloved country in action,
Our Malaysian spirit was strong,
The gold medals were our attraction.
Each day we faithfully watch,
As our country fought and fought,
Pride overfilling our hearts,
As we monitored the score charts.
Which led me to where I am,
In my seat in front of the TV,
My mind nowhere else,
But of the Games in front of me.
Monday, August 4, 2008 Never Part
She slapped his face,
He winked at her,
She walked away.
He sighed,
She groaned,
He laughed,
She smiled.
A love hate of their kind,
A mismatch of their hearts,
A trick of the mind;
For never will they part.
Sunday, July 27, 2008 Ice Cream
When i was ten and young,
I wanted to climb a tree,
So i got a ladder hung,
On the highest branch i could see.
I started from the bark,
Slowly making my way up,
Scraping my fingers and toes,
I struggled looking for holes.
To support me on my climb,
To avoid me falling behind
I wrapped myself around the tree,
And wouldn't let anyone near me.
LET ME CLIMB THE TREE IN PEACE,
I shouted, hollered, and screamed,
For on the top of that very tree,
Was an icecream just for me.

Saturday, July 19, 2008 Rakan (Friend)
Sudah lama aku menunggumu,
Berdiri di hadapan halamanmu,
Berdoa boleh berjumpa.
Namun,
Engkau tidak kelihatan,
Engkau tidak datang!
Kesakitan yang mendalam
Mengenggam hatiku.
Mengapakah aku
perlu menanti?
Rakan,
Aku berharap
Aku berdoa
Engkau akan pulang
Kepadaku,
Nanti.
My friend,
I've been waiting for so long,
Standing in front of your compound,
Praying that we meet.
But,
You're not seen
You're not here!
A cutting pain,
Grasps my heart.
Why do I have to wait?
My friend,
I hope,
I pray,
You will come back to me,
One day.
Monday, July 14, 2008 Let Her
When a girl needs you?
Let her cry,
Just one more time,
Then wipe away her tears,
It'll get rid of her fears.
Let her laugh,
With all her heart,
Say something sweet,
It'll make her smile.
Let her sleep,
It'll bring her peace,
Hold her close,
And give her a kiss.
Let her speak,
It'll clear her mind,
Just listen to her,
It'll make sense in time.
Let her dance,
It'll be her release,
Watch her closely,
It'll make her blush.
Let her sing,
It'll make her happy,
Ignore the rest,
And it's all set.
But if the times comes,
Where it becomes too late,
Let her leave,
Let her walk away.
Saturday, July 12, 2008 Cupcakes
Cupcakes
I sat in a corner,
Counting my hoard,
Grinning happily,
At the cupcakes galore.
Fresh, stale, it mattered not,
Baked, stolen, even bought,
My beautiful icing covered cupcakes,
I'll protect them; whatever it takes!
I shall name my room the Cupcake Place,
And ensure that they all stay safe,
There'll be security, freezers, and ovens too,
You touch my cupcakes, you're dead, mind you.
Cupcakes have feelings,
I know they do,
So you'd better not eat them,
Coz that's just cruel!
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 No More Lice
Wishing I had some money,
Seeing the colourful signs on the door,
Tempting my empty tummy.
Holding back my many tears,
I backed away from the shop,
Along came some of my peers,
Each sucking a lolly pop.
I turned away as they walked by,
Hiding my face from their eyes,
For I sure wasn't a pretty sight,
With a filthy face and hair with lice.
When I was sure that they were gone,
I ran and ran to a pond,
Seeing my reflection in the mirror,
I cried and prayed a silent prayer.
Suddenly, I heard a tapping sound,
It was a small woodpecker on the ground,
The bird looked up and surprisingly said,
"Oh gee, you're dressed just like a maid."
I was shocked to hear the little bird speak,
Especially one that looked so meek,
"You're a princess, my dear; a fine one at that,
You once helped us get rid of three cats."
Scratching my head in confusion,
I sat down and came to a conclusion,
"I'm dreaming," I said, convincing myself,
But suddenly I got poked by a tiny elf.
He squeaked and shouted with all his might,
"You're not dreaming! You're not, alright!"
I looked at the elf and had to believe him,
He was the smallest creature I'd ever seen.
I wasn't dreaming,
I wasn't,
This is all real,
I can live in a castle and eat a proper meal.
Oh, yippie! Oh, yay!
What a happy day,
I'm a princess, oh, yea!
And I'm here to stay.
From that day onwards,
I had a happy life,
And never again,
Did my hair have lice.
Friday, July 4, 2008 All She Needed
All She Needed
Patiently awaiting his return,
She sat under the big tall tree,
Remembering how they sat in turn,
On the rubber tube overlooking the sea.
She stood up and turned as she heard a sound,
Behind was the man she was waiting for,
He looked at her and turned around,
She sobbed and sobbed as her heart tore.
Lifting her eyes to the heavens above,
Wondering why it happened to her,
He was handsome and charming, the man she loved,
He was also the envy of most of her peers.
He had never hurt her in any way,
Until she saw them one fateful day,
They were sitting under this very tree,
Kissing and hugging so passionately.
She shouted and sweared before breaking down,
Her voice; so loud could be heard all over town,
The villagers thought that someone had died,
But it was only the girl who cried and cried.
She remembered how he apologized that day,
Convincing her that everything was okay,
She didn't believe him but looked in his eyes,
And immedietely, her tears started to dry.
But he lied and broke her heart again,
By walking away; down this lane,
Everything was not okay,
And she knew that there was no other way.
Gathering what courage she had,
Emotions took over; both happy and sad,
She ran to him and ended it,
The reality of it took long to hit.
But when it did,
She was so very glad,
No longer a burden she had to have,
She looked for a man she didn't have to share,
A man that took the time to care.
Succeed she did and loved him so,
He was a man she was glad to hold,
Caring and compassionate,
Loving and kind,
He was all she needed,
For all time.
Thursday, July 3, 2008 My Friend
Everyone hates you,
I'm not surprised,
From what you say,
You can make some cry.
You're rude and conceited,
Insulting and mean,
You have loads of "friends"
You know what I mean.
What happened to the girl?
The one I used to know?
What happened to the friend?
The one that used to care?
What happened to the pal?
The one who was there?
She's gone, I know,
But I want her back.
She's lost, doesn't know
The way to come back
I wanna help,
You know I do,
Just open up,
Like we used to.
Before the boys and cliques,
And the clothes and cash,
The jobs and angst,
That didn't belong there.
Let there be peace,
Let's end this war,
Let's join our hands,
Together, we'll stand.
Saturday, June 28, 2008 Bubblegum Pop
He hated that she was in his seat. He hated that she wouldn’t listen to him. He hated that she stood up to him.
But most of all, he hated the way he couldn’t stop thinking about her.
The first time he saw her in detention, he was mildly surprised. After all, a girl like Casey Ridges didn’t get detention. He had seen her around school before and knew the type of girl she was.
Casey Ridges was a nerd; a huge nerd. She used words like plethora and advocacy in daily speech. She wore oversized jumpers and wore plastic rimmed glasses. She wore white socks with black shoes.
The first time he saw her in detention, Casey Ridges was in his seat. Figuring her to be the type to be easily intimidated, he strode up to her, not even trying to look remotely frightening.
“Get off my seat, Ridges,” he told her, without looking.
What she said next shocked him more than finding out that from his younger brother that dogs couldn’t eat chocolate.
She told him, “When you talk to someone, I suggest you look at them. It’s not very polite otherwise.”
He glanced at her. “Who d-“
She continued, “Secondly, please and thank you can take you a long way. Ah, don’t give me that look. Just because you have about a dozen holes on your face for your ridiculous piercings, it doesn’t mean you can just command someone to do something to your liking.”
“Besides, I like it here. If I’m going to be spending the rest of the week here after school, it might as well be in a seat of my choice. You want to sit here? Come earlier next time.”
Looking away, she took a packet of gum out of her pocket and stuffed one into her mouth, chewing furiously.
As usual, the teacher managing detention wasn’t there. However, the students that were there gave Casey a somewhat respectful glance.
Not many stood up to Darren Conley and made it out alive. Granted, no girl had ever stood up to him.
He was livid. He had never been refused so boldly all his life. The worst part was, he didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t just give up his seat to her, but he couldn’t fight her either.
“Are you done glaring at me already? It’s rather disturbing having a large presence behind me,” she started to say.
“You shut up,” he responded menacingly before storming out of the room.
-
That was two days ago. After some persuasion, he discovered from a junior that Casey had detention for wounding a student. She would have gotten away with a warning, if the student hadn’t ended up in the hospital. Apparently, he was trying to grope her best friend and she punched him in the gut.
The boy got suspended but Casey had to put up with detention for seven days.
Yet again, it shocked him that such a mild looking girl could display such acts of violence.
Glancing at her from his seat in the corner of the room, he could see her blowing her gum and popping it. She made him furious. Yet he wanted to know all about her.
Darren didn’t want the seven days to end.
But still, he really hated how she popped her bubblegum.
The Rocker
Toes skimming the ground,
High on a drug of his own,
High on the euphoria of not being alone.
Arms in the sky,
Guitar in his hold,
He was a rocker on a high,
The music; from his soul.
Friday, June 27, 2008 Feelings
Feelings
One of the most painful words,
Dejected,
As if the world's crumbling down,
Sadness,
It's felt everyday, everywhere,
Disappointment,
Oh, how that hurts so much,
Pain,
Unescapable, Unexplainable, Undeniable
